Not sure about the 1901 date for that particular Altenberg piece.

There is something disquieting about these men all talking about flowers in this way... (Not Mirbeau but the narrator of The Torture Garden; not Bruce Robinson but his character Uncle Monty -- important distinctions.) The seeds here are not mere affinities; had it been only that I would have included a painting by O'Keeffe. (Of course the sequence automatically brings up questions of influence, originality, redundancy, etc.)
